Attack, vandalism at GM Quader's Uttara residence
An attack has taken place at the Uttara residence of Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader in the capital.
A group of people hurled bricks and stones at his house around 11am on Monday (October 12). Quader was at home at the time, but his office said no one was injured.
Shourya Deepto Surya, press secretary to the Jatiya Party chairman, said a group of people threw bricks and stones at the residence around 10:40am. He said police were informed and law enforcers arrived at the scene. He added that the party would announce its next course of action later.
Khalid Mansur, officer-in-charge (OC) of Uttara West Police Station, said police were sent to the scene as soon as news of the attack was received. He said the process of taking necessary legal action is under way.
Jatiya Party sources claimed that a procession was brought out in front of Quader's residence under the banner of "anti-fascist general public" before the attack. Slogans were chanted against him during the procession, and at one point bricks and stones were hurled at the house.
Law enforcement activity was stepped up in the area following the incident. However, details about the identity of those involved, the reason behind the attack, and whether anyone has been detained were not immediately available.
The Jatiya Party has not formally announced its next steps. Police said legal proceedings over the incident are ongoing.
