Attempt to push in 9 people at Birampur border, BGB sends three back

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has arrested two women and one man and sent them back to India after learning that the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) tried to push nine people into Bangladesh through the Birampur border of Dinajpur. However, the remaining six people could not be traced.

This incident took place near the 291/20 S boundary pillar at Khiyarmamudpur border of Katla union under Birampur upazila around 9pm on Thursday.

According to the versions of locals, a wedding ceremony was ongoing at the house of Ferdous Ali, a resident of Khiyarmamudpur village, on Thursday night. Taking this opportunity nine men and women entered Bangladesh from India through the border. Among them two women and one man entered a wedding house in Khiyarmamudpur. Learning the matter the locals informed BGB.

Later BGB members conducted an operation at the house of Mizanur Rahman of Khiyarmamudpur village and arrested those three persons. At that time Mizanur Rahman fled from the house. Locals alleged that a BGB member beat a youth named Azizul Islam on the allegation of being involved in the incident of giving shelter to the people who entered Bangladesh. However, the locals informed that no legal measures were taken against him.

Local UP member Shukur Ali said six of the nine who came from India were given the opportunity to flee with the assistance of Azizul Islam and Mizanur Rahman of Khiyarmamudpur village. Later BGB arrested three from Mizanur’s house.

Commander of Bhaigar BOP camp under Joypurhat Battalion (BGB-20) Subedar Mostafizur Rahman said BSF was bringing two women and one man into Bangladesh. BGB arrested them and sent them back to India.

Local sources have informed that those three who were sent back are staying at a house in Srirampur village of India about 500 yards away from the 291/20 S boundary pillar of the border.

Earlier BSF had also tried to push nine women into Bangladesh through the same border at dawn on July 25. It was learnt from local sources that they had come from Amenabad area of Gujarat of India.
