Attempt to stage suicide drama by killing wife: Man gets life

A court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for strangling his wife to death in Matiranga of Khagrachari district.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Chandan Kanti Nath pronounced the verdict on Thursday (April 9) afternoon.

According to court sources, Wasim Akram, 28, strangled his wife Safia Akter, 25, to death on the night of May 24, 2017 due to a family dispute. Later, he tried to stage a drama by hanging her to make it look like a suicide.

In this incident, the deceased's father Md. Abdul Hakim filed a murder case with Matiranga Police Station as the plaintiff. The court delivered this verdict after almost nine years of trial. The testimonies of 11 witnesses were recorded in the case.

The accused were present in the court when the verdict was announced. However, the accused's lawyer Advocate Karimullah said that they are not satisfied with the verdict and will appeal to the High Court.
