Attorney General in favour of canceling 'Father of the Nation', 'Bengali Nationalism'
Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman has expressed his position in favour of excluding some issues such as father of the nation, Bengali nationalism, socialism and secularism from the constitution.
He said this in the hearing of the rule issued on the fifteenth amendment of the constitution on Wednesday (November 13).
The hearing was held in the High Court bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Debashish Roy Chowdhury.
The Attorney General said in the hearing, "The abolition of the caretaker government has caused bleeding in the hearts of the people of Bangladesh. The fundamental rights have been destroyed. Why should the fifteenth Amendment not be declared unconstitutional? It cannot be kept as part of the constitution. Retaining the Fifteenth Amendment is in conflict with the spirit of the Liberation War, the mass uprising of the 1990s and the July Revolution of 1924. If this fifteenth Amendment is not repealed, the souls of the martyrs including Abu Sayeed, and Mughda will not rest in peace.”
Asaduzzaman said, "Democracy has been killed through Article 7B of the Constitution. The principle of the constitution is democracy, not socialism. We want to eliminate socialism. No one denies the contribution of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. There is a serious debate about the Father of the Nation. The nation is divided. The constitution made after the independence of the country did not have a father of the nation. It was inserted in the fifteenth amendment. Forced. It has been done—to speak against him would be treason. Calling him Father of the Nation is against the spirit of the Constitution.”
He said, "Difference has been created between people through Article 6 of the Constitution. In no country in the world nationality is determined by language.”
