August 5 to be a public holiday to mark uprising day: Adviser Farooki
From now on, August 5 will be observed as a public holiday in honour of the Student-People’s Uprising Day, Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki announced on Thursday.
Speaking at a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital, Farooki said the decision to declare August 5 as a National Day to commemorate the student-public movement will be finalized at the Advisory Council meeting on Sunday.
He said, “Programmes centring the July uprising will begin on July 1 and continue till August 5. A detailed month-long plan will be announced next Monday. The main phase of the July programme will commence on July 14.”
“Just as the country united during the movement, this programme will also be implemented with everyone’s involvement,” Farooki added.
