Australia cancels visa of Shaykh Ahmadullah following Azhari's deportation
Australia has formally cancelled the visa of prominent Bangladeshi Islamic speaker Shaykh Ahmadullah, shortly after taking similar action against Maulana Dr. Mizanur Rahman Azhari.
The decision was taken by the country’s Home Affairs Ministry on Sunday (April 5), amid allegations related to past remarks deemed extremist and antisemitic.
According to reports, the cancellation was announced while Shaykh Ahmadullah was preparing to depart via Sydney Airport.
Assistant Minister for Immigration Matt Thistlethwaite confirmed the move, stating that the Australian government maintains zero tolerance toward individuals promoting antisemitic or Islamophobic views.
Local media outlet The Daily Telegraph reported that Ahmadullah had previously made controversial remarks referring to Jews in derogatory terms and blaming them for global unrest.
Shaykh Ahmadullah had travelled to Australia to attend a series of events marking the 25th anniversary of IPDC under a programme titled “Legacy of Faith.” He had already reached Melbourne and addressed the Bangladeshi diaspora through a video message.
He was scheduled to attend multiple events across the country, including in Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, Adelaide and Perth between April 3 and April 11.
However, like Azhari, he has now been compelled to leave Australia before participating in the planned programmes.
