Auto-rickshaw driver killed after vehicle overturns in Dhaka

A battery-powered auto-rickshaw driver was killed after his vehicle overturned in Uttarkhan's Abdullahpur Atipara area of the capital late Thursday night (July 23).

The deceased was identified as Md Masud, 26, a resident of Binnakuri village in Mymensingh's Muktagachha upazila.

The accident took place around 11:00pm while Masud was driving his auto-rickshaw in the Abdullahpur Atipara area.

He sustained critical injuries after the vehicle overturned.

Family members rescued him and rushed him to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College (Dhaka Medical) Hospital, where doctors declared him dead at around 12:30am, according to hospital authorities.

Masud's sister, Amena Begum, said he earned his livelihood by driving a battery-powered auto-rickshaw and had been living in a rented house in Uttarkhan with his family. He is survived by his wife and a child.

Confirming the incident, Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the Dhaka Medical Hospital police outpost, said the body was handed over to the family without an autopsy after completion of the required legal formalities.
