Awami League leader dies in Chattogram Central Jail

Nur Islam, a leader of the banned Awami League, has died after falling ill in Chattogram Central Jail. After falling ill at noon on Wednesday (September 2), he was taken to the jail hospital. Later when he was taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, the doctor declared him dead around 3pm.

Nur Islam was the general secretary of the banned Awami League of Ward No. 7 of Mirsarai municipality.

Senior Jail Super of Chattogram Central Jail Md. Iqbal Hossain informed that Nur Islam fell ill in the jail around 2:30pm on Wednesday. Later he was taken to the jail hospital. From there when he was taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital around 3pm, the doctor declared him dead.

He said the body of Nur Islam will be handed over to the family after completing the legal process.

The senior jail super further informed that Nur Islam, who was arrested in a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act, was brought to Chattogram Central Jail on July 31.
