Awami League leader shot in Kushtia
An Awami League leader was critically injured after being shot by miscreants in Mirpur upazila of Kushtia.
The incident took place around 7:00 pm on Sunday, March 29, in the Sadarpur Bazar area. The injured, Shafiqul Islam Azam, 52, is the general secretary of the Amla Union Awami League and the son of the late Abul Mondol.
According to police and local sources, Azam was sitting in a tobacco warehouse at the market when several gunshots were suddenly heard. Locals rushed to the scene and found him with bullet injuries before taking him to Kushtia General Hospital, where he is currently in critical condition.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mirpur Police Station, Shahidul Islam, said police recovered three bullet casings and a magazine from the scene. A motorcycle, believed to have been abandoned by the attackers, was also seized.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and an investigation is underway.
