Awami League-backed candidates win six posts in Brahmanbaria bar election
Candidates backed by the Bangladesh Awami League have secured victory in six posts, including president and general secretary, in the Brahmanbaria District Lawyers' Association election.
Chief Election Commissioner Abdul Malek announced the results after counting votes on Sunday night. Voting was held for a total of 15 posts.
According to the results, Mofizur Rahman was elected president with 331 votes, and A K M Abdul Hai was elected general secretary with 314 votes.
Elected president Mofizur Rahman is the general secretary of the outgoing committee and Law Affairs Secretary of the district Awami League. A K M Abdul Hai is a former chairman of Sadekpur Union Parishad in Sadar upazila and an Awami League-backed leader.
Among the 15 posts, candidates from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)-backed panel contested seven posts, Awami League-backed candidates contested six, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami-backed candidates contested one, and Jatiya Party-backed candidates contested one post.
According to Lawyers' Association sources, vote counting for the 2026 executive committee election began around 8:30 pm on Sunday and continued until approximately 1:30 am to 1:45 am.
Earlier, voting for the association's executive committee was held on Thursday, from 10:30 am to 4:00 pm.
