Awami League's meeting held in Cox's Bazar: Case filed against 114

Police have filed a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act against 114 leaders and activists of the Awami League, Jubo League and Chhatra League in Ukhiya, Cox's Bazar, over allegations of holding a secret meeting and plotting sabotage. Another 50 to 60 unidentified individuals have also been named as accused in the case.

The case was filed on Sunday (July 26) by Ukhiya Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Palash Barua.

According to the case statement, while on duty in the Kutupalong market area on Saturday, police received intelligence that leaders and activists were holding a secret meeting at the residence of former Chhatra League general secretary Ali Ahmed in the Nalbunia area of Palangkhali Union. Upon arriving at the scene, police claimed that those present were chanting anti-government slogans and plotting sabotage.

Upon sensing the presence of police, those in the meeting attempted to flee. At that time, Milan Barua (42), general secretary of Ward No. 8 under Haldia Palang Union Awami League, and Abu Naser Mohammad Imran (24) were detained and later sent to jail through court.

The case names 114 individuals from various levels of the Awami League, Jubo League and Chhatra League, including Ukhiya Upazila Awami League President Jahangir Kabir Chowdhury, Vice-President Humayun Kabir Chowdhury, General Secretary Nurul Huda, Upazila Chhatra League Convener Tarek Hossain Manik, Upazila Jubo League President Imam Hossain and General Secretary Sarwar Kamal Pasha.

Ukhiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Atiqur Rahman Majumdar said operations are ongoing to arrest the other accused.

Meanwhile, leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliated organisations staged protest marches and demanded the swift arrest of those implicated in the case.
