Azizul Haque College authorities neglected spirit of Liberation War: SSF
Socialist Students' Front (SSF) has claimed that the authorities of Bogura Government Azizul Haque College had neglected the spirit of the Liberation War during their Victory Day celebrations.
While the college marked the occasion with national flag hoisting, volleyball match and cultural programmes, the martyrs were not remembered, according to the organization.
In a statement released on Tuesday (December 17), Niyoti Sarkar Neetu, member secretary of the college branch of the SSF, criticized the college authorities for celebrating the victory without paying due tribute to the war heroes.
“We achieved victory at the cost of the lives of 3 million martyrs and sufferings of 2.5 million mothers and sisters during the Liberation War. But the Azizul Haque College authorities have only celebrated the Victory Day without paying respect to the heroes, which denies the spirit of the Liberation War,” Neetu said.
She, furthermore, described the omission as a “shameful chapter” in the college’s history.
The statement further highlighted that, despite having multiple programmes scheduled for the 54th Victory Day, the authorities failed to organize any event to lay wreaths at the Shaheed Minar or hold a rally in tribute to the martyrs. This was noted in the official notification issued on December 11 by the college principal, Professor Md. Shawkat Alam Mir, which outlined the flag hoisting, volleyball match, and cultural activities but omitted any mention of a tribute to the martyrs.
The SSF has termed this omission a serious offense, accusing the college authorities of undermining the core values of the Liberation War.
When contacted for a response, Principal Md. Shawkat Alam Mir disconnected the call angrily without providing any comment.
