Bail for AL leaders, pro-BNP lawyers protest in Barisal
The leaders of the Bar Association and BNP-backed lawyers have announced to boycott the activities of the Barisal Chief Metropolitan Court and Additional Chief Metropolitan Court after the bail was granted to Awami League leaders including District Awami League General Secretary and former MP Talukder Md. Yunus.
They observed the boycott programme from the morning and staged a protest, taking position in front of the CMM Court on Tuesday (February 24).
Hafiz Ahmed Bablu, Assistant Public Prosecutor of the Barisal District Judge's Court, said that while people have to take bail from the District Judge's Court in explosive cases, Awami League leaders whose activities are banned are being granted bail from the lower courts. Yesterday, Tuesday, District Awami League General Secretary Talukder Mohammad Yunus came to the court and left after getting bail. Therefore, they demanded the immediate removal of the Additional Chief Metropolitan Court judge.
Meanwhile, as lawyers boycott the court, trial seekers from far and wide are suffering.
Also present at the time were Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court PP Mostafizur Rahman Babu, Metropolitan Magistrate Court APP Syed Morshed Mamun, Additional PP Abul Kalam Azad Emon, Additional PP Nurul Haque Dulal, and pro-BNP lawyers.
