Bail granted to 40 BDR soldiers involved in Pilkhana massacre

In a case related to the 2009 Pilkhana rebellion of the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR), the court has granted bail to 40 BDR soldiers who were previously detained. The case involves charges under the Explosives Act.

On Monday (May 12), sources from the court confirmed that the special tribunal-2 in Dhaka, headed by Judge Ibrahim Mia, issued the bail order on May 8. Shahadat Hossain, the bench assistant of the relevant tribunal, also confirmed the matter.

Meanwhile, prosecutor Md. Borhan Uddin of the state side mentioned that many of the accused, including those granted bail, have been sentenced or even sentenced to death.

After reviewing the documents of the accused who applied for bail, the court granted bail to 40 individuals, while bail was denied for the remaining accused.

The individuals granted bail include: Rezaul Karim, Shahjahan, Rafiqul Islam, Saiful Islam, Rezaul Karim, Md. Shamim, Wali Ullah, Habibur Rahman, Tariqul Islam, Bony Amin Chowdhury, Md. E. Barik, Imtiaz Ahmed Nabeen, Moazzem Hossain, Mizanur Rahman, Siddiqur Zaman Jowarder (Liton), Md. E. Monaf, Akidul Islam, Khalilur Rahman, Mizanur Rahman, Koutuk Kumar Sarker, Md. Salahuddin, Soharab Hossain, Kamal Hossain, Md. Ishak, Darul Islam, Shri Suman Chakraborty, Abu Saeed, Sejan Mahmood, Md. Selim, Bidhan Kumar Saha, Masum Hasan, Firoz Mia, Shri Taposh Kumar Biswas, Rafiqul Islam, Kamal Mia, Nur-e-Alam Mia, Enamul Haque, Shafiqul Islam, Robiul Alam, and Al Amin.

Earlier, on January 19, the same court granted bail to 178 other BDR soldiers. They were released from the Keraniganj and Kashimpur prisons on January 23.
