Ballot papers to reach polling centres on election day morning: EC

The Election Commission (EC) has said that ballot papers are scheduled to arrive at the polling centers on the morning of the election day, slated for 7 January, 2024.

The decision revealed in a notice on Monday (18 December) added that in case of polling stations in hill tracts, haor, baor, char, islands, or remote areas, the Returning Officer (RO) may consult with police as per UNO or assistant RO's suggestion and arrange to deliver ballot accordingly.

In all other cases, Returning Officers were directed to deliver ballot papers to polling centers on the morning of January 7.

Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal told reporters at the EC office in the capital, "As far as possible, the ballots will reach [polling centres] on the morning of polling day. The polling agents will have to be there to see that the polling boxes are empty and the ballot papers reached the polling station in the morning.”
