Ban on Jamaat may be lifted tomorrow: party lawyer
The interim government may release a circular tomorrow (Tuesday) to reverse the Awami League government's August 1 order banning Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir.
Shishir Manir, a lawyer for Jamaat-e-Islami, shared this information with reporters on the Supreme Court premises on Sunday.
He said, "I have spoken with the Ministry of Home Affairs, and they have confirmed that the entire process is complete. Since today is a public holiday, I am hopeful that the prohibition order will be lifted tomorrow (Tuesday)."
Shishir Manir said, "We are unclear on the reasons for Jamaat-e-Islami's ban, but I believe it is politically motivated. The party has been involved in supporting students who have protested against the authoritarian government. Additionally, Jamaat-e-Islami has played a significant role in the formation of Dr. Yunus's interim government."
"Once the ban on Jamaat-e-Islami is lifted, we will take steps to revive the case in the Appellate Division to restore the party's registration," he added.
