The district administration has banned tourists from traveling to Rangamati after a massive fire broke out in the Sajek Valley.

Rangamati Deputy Commissioner Habib Ullah confirmed this information.

He said: "Tourist visits to Sajek have been requested to be temporarily closed."

Earlier, a fire broke out in Sajek around 1pm on Monday (February 24). A total of 94 establishments were burnt down. These include 32 resorts, 35 homes, 20 shops and seven restaurants. However, no casualties were reported.

Khagrachari Fire Service and Civil Defense Deputy Director Mohammad Zaker Hossain said that even though the fire is under control, water is being sprayed to prevent it from spreading elsewhere. However, since the area is on a hill, there is a crisis with water.

Deputy Commissioner Habib Ullah said that assistance will be provided to the victims by preparing a list of actual damages.
