Bangabandhu's sculpture in Rangamati completely demolished
The sculpture of Bangabandhu, situated next to the Rangamati Sadar Upazila Parishad office, was completely demolished by a group of anti-fascist students and citizens.
The sculpture was fully brought down on Tuesday evening.
Imam Hossain Imu, coordinator of the anti-fascist student-citizen movement, said that after trying for four to five days, they were finally able to demolish the sculpture completely.
On May 13, a protest rally was held under the banner of anti-fascist students and citizens, where a 48-hour ultimatum was given to the district council to remove the sculpture of Bangabandhu.
Following that, on Friday afternoon, around 10 to 15 workers began the demolition work. Later, a hammer excavator was brought from Chattogram to continue the task. On Tuesday around 6.00pm, the 31-foot-tall and 12-foot-wide standing sculpture collapsed with a loud noise.
Khandaker Mohammad Rizaul Karim, Chief Executive Officer of Rangamati Hill District Council, said, "I don’t know whether the sculpture has been demolished."
