Bangladesh Agricultural University closed sine die
The authorities of Bangladesh Agricultural University have closed the university for an indefinite period following an attack on demonstrating students.
In an emergency online syndicate meeting held around 9:30pm on Sunday, university's Academic Council made the decision to suspend all academic activities.
According to the official directive issued following the meeting, all students have been instructed to vacate their residential halls by 9:00am on Monday (September 1).
The sudden closure comes amid mounting tensions over student protests related to the implementation of a combined degree programme, which escalated into unrest. The students confined over 200 teachers, including the vice-chancellor on the campus for around six hours, demanding combined degree.
The teachers got free from the confinement after some outsiders attacked the students, and a clash took place between the two groups.
