The Bangladesh Bank has issued special instructions to ensure uninterrupted banking and digital financial services during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha holidays, aiming to maintain smooth transactions for customers nationwide.

In a circular issued on Thursday (May 21), the central bank directed scheduled banks, mobile financial service (MFS) providers, payment service providers (PSPs), and payment system operators (PSOs) to ensure continuous availability of electronic financial services throughout the holiday period.

According to the directive, customers must be able to carry out transactions without disruption through ATMs, point of sale (POS) terminals, QR code payments, internet banking, online payment gateways, and mobile financial services.

Banks have been instructed to keep ATM booths operational round the clock, ensure adequate cash supply, and respond promptly to any technical disruptions. Institutions have also been asked to strengthen security measures at ATM locations.

To enhance online transaction security, the central bank has made two-factor authentication (2FA) mandatory, particularly for card-based online payments.

MFS providers have been directed to ensure sufficient liquidity at agent points and remain prepared to handle increased transaction pressure during the holiday rush.

The circular also requires instant SMS alerts for all electronic transactions to improve transparency and customer awareness. In addition, round-the-clock customer service hotlines must remain active to address complaints and prevent service disruptions.

The central bank further instructed financial institutions to run public awareness campaigns to prevent digital fraud and ensure strict compliance with previously issued guidelines.
