Bangladesh begins first-ever wheat import from US

Bangladesh has started importing wheat from the United States for the first time, the Ministry of Food announced on Saturday.

Under a recently signed MoU between the governments of Bangladesh and the US, a total of 440,000 metric tons of wheat will be imported on a G2G basis.

The first shipment, carrying 56,959 metric tons aboard the ship 'My North Stride', arrived at Chittagong port on Saturday (October 25). Samples from the shipment are being tested, and clearance procedures will follow promptly.

Of the first shipment, 34,170 metric tons will be unloaded at Chittagong port and the remaining 22,789 metric tons at Mongla port.
