Bangladesh calls for stronger ties with Algiers in energy, trade, investment

Strengthening cooperation between Bangladesh and Algeria in various sectors including energy, trade and investment has been emphasised. Discussions were also held on advancing the ongoing process of regular high-level meetings and forming a Joint Consultative Commission.

Algerian Ambassador to Bangladesh Abdelouahab Saidani paid a courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday, April 13, to discuss these issues.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said both sides reaffirmed the long-standing friendly relations and growing cooperation between the two countries.

The state minister called for increased cooperation in the energy sector to ensure long-term energy security and welcomed the interest in expanding cooperation in Algeria's hydrocarbon sector.

Both sides discussed various possibilities for expanding trade and investment, with particular emphasis on strengthening cooperation in energy, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, shipbuilding and manpower sectors.

The state minister raised the issue of increasing cooperation in the education sector and welcomed the initiative to form a Joint Consultative Commission between the two countries.

The ambassador reaffirmed Algeria's commitment to further increasing cooperation in various sectors including energy, education and agriculture. He assured continued cooperation in various fields, including recruitment of skilled and unskilled manpower.

The state minister emphasised increasing people-to-people contact between the two countries. She called for cultural and sports exchanges, a mutual visa waiver agreement, and increased regular high-level visits and meetings.

The ambassador reaffirmed Algeria's continued support to Bangladesh and expressed commitment to further strengthening the fraternal relations between the two countries.
