Bangladesh delegation to join Indian Army’s Victory Day celebration
A 20-member Bangladeshi delegation is set to travel to Kolkata to attend the Indian Army’s Victory Day celebrations marking Bangladesh’s Liberation War victory in 1971.
According to the Indian Army’s Eastern Command, the delegation includes eight freedom fighters and two military officers, each accompanied by a family member.
Bangladesh’s Deputy High Commission in Kolkata confirmed the development to BBC Bangla.
Every year on December 16, the Indian Army observes Victory Day, inviting Bangladeshi freedom fighters and military officials as special guests. A Bangladeshi delegation also attended last year’s ceremony.
India commemorates its 1971 war victory with nationwide events, with the most elaborate celebrations held at the Eastern Command headquarters in Kolkata’s Fort William—now also referred to as “Bijoy Durg.”
One of the main highlights of the festivities is the “Military Tattoo,” featuring demonstrations by Indian Army personnel, along with trained horses, dogs, and military robots, as well as cultural performances.
This year, the Military Tattoo will be held at the Mangal Pandey Military Training Area, the Indian Army said.
