Bangladesh extends Press Secy Tarique Choyon's tenure in Kolkata mission

The Bangladesh government has extended the tenure of Md Tariqul Islam Bhuiya, also known as Tarique Choyon, first secretary (Press) at the Deputy High Commission in Kolkata, for another year.


A notification signed by Ibrahim Bhuiya, additional secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, on Wednesday (November 12) confirmed his tenure extension, citing Choyon’s success in promoting Bangladesh’s positive image in India since taking office last November.


"Choyon has strengthened professional relations with journalists and media outlets, enhancing the mission’s activities," the notification read.


A renowned Bangladeshi journalist with extensive experience in diplomatic, political, and administrative reporting, he is also a close associate of Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus.


Since joining in Kolkata, Choyon has actively promoted Bangladesh’s image across West Bengal and other Indian states, highlighting religious harmony and secular values.


Recently, he received the 'International Excellence Award 2025' in Kuala Lumpur on October 14 at Lincoln University College.
