Bangladesh gifts mangoes to Maldives government

As a symbol of the longstanding friendship and brotherly ties between the two countries, the Bangladesh government has gifted premium quality seasonal Bangladeshi mangoes to the Maldives government. The goodwill gift was sent to mark the 61st Independence Day of the Maldives and to commemorate the official visit of Bangladesh's Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman.

The Bangladesh High Commission in Male confirmed the matter on Wednesday (July 29). On behalf of the Bangladesh government, Bangladesh High Commissioner to the Maldives Dr Md Nazmul Islam formally handed over the mangoes to the Maldives Ministry of Foreign Affairs. According to the High Commission, this sincere gesture is another bright reflection of the mutual respect, goodwill and strong bilateral relations between the two friendly countries.

Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman is currently visiting the Maldives at the invitation of the Maldivian government, marking his first official visit to the country. On the occasion of the 61st anniversary of Maldives' independence, he attended a colourful parade at Republic Square in the capital Male as a special guest, where he was received by Maldivian Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam.

During the parade, members of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) presented march-pasts and various military displays. Additionally, Khalilur Rahman participated in a tree planting programme at Lonuziyarai Park in Male, where he gifted ten saplings to the Maldivian government as a symbol of friendship and planted a tree himself.

According to diplomatic observers, this visit will further strengthen the enduring friendly relations between the two countries and create new opportunities for expanding bilateral cooperation in the future.
