Bangladesh has not yet established a just society: CA Yunus
Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser to the Interim Government, said that the aim of the war of independence in 1971 was to establish a just society, where the rule of law would prevail, basic human rights would be ensured and a society without discrimination would be established. But a just society has not yet been established in independent Bangladesh. For a long time, the people of this country have been deprived of their voting rights. A fascist system has been established in the country by continuing the reign of corruption, looting and disappearances.
He said this at the Independence Award presentation ceremony at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Tuesday (March 25) morning.
The Chief Adviser remembered all the brave martyrs and freedom fighters of the war of independence with deep respect.
Remembering with respect those martyred and injured in the July Uprising, he said that due to their sacrifices, we got the opportunity to dream of building a 'New Bangladesh'. We will not let this opportunity go in vain.
He said, today's program is reminding us that the joy of receiving an award during one's lifetime, for the country, for the family, for the individual; is not available in posthumous awards. The one we are honoring is no longer with us.
The Chief Adviser said, let us make a rule in the future, that we should end the turn of giving posthumous awards and give awards to those who are still alive. We give them respect. They have taken our nation to great heights. We are not just honoring them with awards. Rather, we as a nation get our respect through them. Each of them is well-known in the international arena. They have given a lot for the nation. If we cannot remember them during their lifetime, we will be identified as an ungrateful nation. Let us give it to those whom we want to give this honor to at the right time.
