The Bangladesh High Commission in Malaysia has issued a warning to Bangladeshi nationals about a scam involving false promises of employment in Sabah state.

According to an official notice posted on the High Commission’s Facebook page on Friday, a fraud ring is reportedly collecting passports and cash from Bangladeshis seeking work in Sabah under false pretenses.

The notice clarified that there is currently no agreement or Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the governments of Bangladesh and Malaysia regarding the recruitment of workers for Sabah. Furthermore, the Sabah authorities have not authorized the recruitment of Bangladeshi workers.

The High Commission urged prospective workers to be cautious and avoid any dealings with fraudulent agents until an official agreement is signed. Discussions between Bangladesh and Sabah authorities are ongoing.

The High Commission also assured that once permission for recruitment is granted, all updates will be made available on their official website.
