Bangladesh, India take initiative to resume visa operations in full swing
After almost a year and a half of tensions, Bangladesh and India are moving towards normalizing visa services. It is reported that this initiative has been taken as part of the gradual normalization of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
According to a report by the Indian Express, India-based media outlet, Bangladesh has already started all types of visa services. On the other hand, India may also return to full-fledged visa services in the next few weeks in a phased manner.
The report also said that the issue of visa normalization was a key priority in recent discussions between the two countries. Currently, Bangladesh visa centers including New Delhi, Kolkata, Agartala and Chennai are operational.
Dhaka has informed that although visa services were temporarily suspended for some time last year, they were later resumed. Now Bangladesh is waiting for the full-fledged activities of the Indian side to start.
Diplomatic sources say that Indian visa services may resume more normally after the new High Commissioner takes charge.
Although relations between the two countries have been tense since the political changes in 2024, there are signs of normalization in recent times. It is reported that efforts are underway to re-stabilize relations between the two countries through high-level contacts and mutual visits.
