Bangladesh, Pakistan air force chiefs meet, discuss on JF-17 Thunder fighter jets
A meeting between the air force chiefs of Bangladesh and Pakistan has been held in Islamabad, with discussions focusing on the possible acquisition of JF-17 Thunder fighter aircraft, according to Pakistan’s military media wing ISPR.
In a statement, ISPR said Bangladesh Air Force chief Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan met Pakistan Air Force chief Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu on Tuesday, January 6. The meeting emphasised strengthening bilateral cooperation, training and capability development between the two air forces.
The statement said detailed discussions were held on the prospects of procuring JF-17 Thunder fighter jets. The visiting Bangladesh air chief was formally presented with a guard of honour.
ISPR said both sides stressed enhancing operational cooperation and institutional coordination, alongside joint collaboration in training, capability enhancement, aerospace and space domains.
The Pakistan Air Force chief briefed his Bangladeshi counterpart on recent developments within the PAF and reaffirmed commitments to provide comprehensive training support, from basic to advanced flying and specialised courses. He also assured early delivery of Super Mushshak trainer aircraft and long-term training and support frameworks.
The Bangladesh Air Force chief praised the PAF’s combat experience and operational expertise. He sought cooperation in maintaining Bangladesh’s ageing aircraft fleet and in integrating air defence radar systems to enhance air surveillance capabilities.
During the visit, the Bangladesh delegation toured several key PAF facilities, including the National ISR and Integrated Air Operations Centre, PAF Cyber Command and the National Aerospace Science and Technology Park.
ISPR said the visit reflected the historical ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh and underscored a shared commitment to deepening defence cooperation and building a long-term strategic partnership.
