Bangladesh and Pakistan have signed one agreement and four memorandums of understanding (MoUs) aimed at enhancing cooperation in diplomacy, trade, culture, and media.

The MoUs were signed on Sunday (August 24) following a bilateral meeting between Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain and Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar at Hotel Sonargaon in Dhaka.

The sole agreement signed includes a visa exemption for holders of diplomatic and official passports.

Other MoUs cover cultural exchange programmes, and cooperation between the foreign service academies of both nations, trade and investment through a joint working group, collaboration between strategic studies institutes.

Additionally, discussions are ongoing to finalise an additional MoU between the two countries' quality control and agricultural research institutions.

Ishaq Dar arrived in Dhaka on Saturday for a two-day official visit. He is the third Pakistani cabinet member to visit Bangladesh since the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government in August last year, following visits by Pakistan’s Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi in July and Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan earlier this week.
