Bangladesh ranked 129th, slipping 11 notches, in happy country index
In the list of the happiest countries in the world in 2024, the position of Bangladesh is 129th out of 143 countries. Bangladesh slipped 11 notches compared to last year.
In 2023, Bangladesh was ranked 118th in this list, which is 24 places behind the previous year's 94th position.
This year, Nepal is 93rd, Pakistan 108th, Myanmar 118th, India 126th, Sri Lanka 128th and Afghanistan 143rd position among South Asian countries. Bangladesh's position in South Asia is only above Afghanistan. Maldives and Bhutan were not included in the survey, reports CNN.
The World Happiness Report is published annually by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network. The report, which marks the United Nations International Day of Happiness on March 20, draws on global survey data from people in more than 140 countries.
As per the report published today (March 20), Finland is the happiest country in the world for the seventh consecutive year.
Nordic countries dominate the top 10 in the list. Along with Finland, Denmark (2), Iceland (3) and Sweden (4) are among the top five countries.
In addition, Israel is named as the fifth happiest country.
For the first time since the publication of this annual report started a decade ago, the names of the United States (23) and Germany (24) are not among the top 20 happiest countries.
Countries are ranked on happiness based on their average life evaluations over the three preceding years, in this case, 2021–2023.
The report is a partnership of Gallup, the Oxford Wellbeing Research Centre, the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network and an editorial board.
This year’s report is the first to include separate rankings by age group, and it brings bad news about life satisfaction among young people in some parts of the world.
