Bangladesh is set to hold its national election in mid-February 2026, announced Chief Adviser of the interim government, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus.

Speaking at a joint press briefing following a meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Tuesday morning, Dr. Yunus confirmed the country's preparedness for the upcoming polls.

"Bangladesh is ready to conduct national elections by mid-February 2026," he stated.

During the briefing, Dr. Yunus also called for increased Malaysian investment in Bangladesh, highlighting the country's economic potential. "There is immense opportunity for investment in Bangladesh," he said.

Addressing the ongoing Rohingya crisis, the Chief Adviser described it as a major challenge for Bangladesh and urged support from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to help resolve the issue.

Earlier in the day, Dr. Yunus held a formal meeting with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim at 10:00 AM local time. The two sides signed five Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation in various sectors.

The agreements were signed on the second day of Dr. Yunus’s three-day official visit to Malaysia.
