Bangladesh sets new record for highest electricity production
Bangladesh has set a new record for the highest electricity production in the country's history. The Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources said that 17,200 megawatts of electricity were produced in the country at 9 pm on Wednesday (May 20).
In a press release sent to the media at 9:15 pm, the ministry said that this is the highest electricity production record in the country's history. However, according to sources from the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB), there was also 499 megawatts of load shedding at that time.
The country's previous record for highest electricity production was 16,794 megawatts. That record was achieved on July 23 last year. After about 10 months, the country's power sector broke that record and touched a new milestone.
Power sector officials say that due to the intense heat, the country's electricity consumption is at its highest since evening. Especially in the summer season, the use of air-conditioned devices or ACs and fans in the residential sector increases greatly, so both the demand and production of electricity increase during peak hours.
The demand for electricity has also increased significantly due to the increasing intensity of heat due to rising temperatures across the country. In such a situation, the new record in electricity production and supply is being considered as a relief by those concerned.
