Bangladesh has set a world record as 54 paratroopers simultaneously skydived while holding national flags to mark 54 years of independence. The unique event was organised by the armed forces on Tuesday, December 16, at the parade ground adjacent to Tejgaon old airport in Dhaka.

The record marks the highest number of parachutists carrying flags at the same time anywhere in the world.

A total of 54 paratroopers from Team Bangladesh took part in the display.

Chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus witnessed the historic event.

A coordinated flypast involving the army, navy and air force was also held, with various Bangladesh Air Force aircraft and helicopters performing aerial manoeuvres.

Meanwhile, a large number of people gathered at Tejgaon old airport to watch the air show organised on the occasion of Victory Day.

At around 11am, long queues of visitors were seen at the entrance gates of the old airport near Agargaon. After security checks, people were allowed to enter the venue. Members of the army, air force and Border Guard Bangladesh were deployed to ensure security.
