Bangladesh and South Korea have taken a major step toward modernising land administration by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on digitised cadastral surveys and an integrated land information management system. The agreement was signed by A.S.M. Saleh Ahmed, Senior Secretary of Bangladesh’s Ministry of Land, and Lee Sang-kyung, Vice Minister of South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, during the 2025 K-GEO Fest in South Korea.

The MoU aims to implement a nationwide digital land survey in Bangladesh, marking a historic move toward 100% digitalisation of the country’s land records. Land surveys in Bangladesh are conducted approximately every 25 years, and the new initiative will be entirely digital, making it the most advanced survey in the country’s history.

The Ministry of Land said the initiative will enable the storage of land data digitally, ensure accurate ownership verification, and make land management more transparent, efficient, and citizen-friendly. Key objectives include reducing land disputes, improving the accuracy of records and documents, and minimizing public inconvenience through automated services.

The programme will also establish a system to collect and maintain precise, up-to-date information on land size, location, usability, and classification. The initiative represents a major milestone in Bangladesh’s efforts to modernize and digitalize its land administration system.
