To meet the country's growing energy demand, the Energy and Mineral Resources Division has approved the import of one cargo of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) from the spot market, at a total cost of Tk 584.16 crore.

The approval came on Tuesday (13 May) during a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase Advisory Council, held at the conference room of the Cabinet Division’s new building. The meeting was chaired by Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed.

According to meeting sources, the Energy and Mineral Resources Division submitted the proposal to import one LNG cargo—scheduled for delivery between 26 and 27 June 2025—through an international quotation process under the Public Procurement Rules, 2008. After reviewing the proposal, the advisory committee gave its approval.

The LNG will be imported from Gunvor Singapore Pte Ltd. Priced at $12.18 per MMBtu, the cargo will carry 3.36 million MMBtu of LNG, bringing the total cost to Tk 584,16,05,952.

Earlier, on 7 May, the same committee approved the import of two LNG cargos from Vitol Asia Ltd, Singapore, at a cost of Tk 1,104.41 crore.
