Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) and Italian aerospace and defence company Leonardo S.p.A have signed a letter of intent (LOI) for the procurement of Eurofighter Typhoon fighter aircraft for the force. The LOI was signed on Tuesday at the Air Force Headquarters in the presence of Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan and Italian Ambassador to Bangladesh Antonio Alessandro, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division and representatives from the Italian side also attended the signing ceremony. According to BAF, it is a step towards inducting modern multi-role combat aircraft into the frontline fleet of the Bangladesh Air Force.

অত্যাধুনিক যুদ্ধবিমান 'ইউরোফাইটার টাইফুন' কেনার জন্য ইতালির লিওনার্দো এসপিএ কোম্পানির সঙ্গে একটি 'লেটার অফ ইনটেন্ট' বা প্রাথমিক সম্মতিপত্র সই করেছে বাংলাদেশ। মঙ্গলবার (৯ ডিসেম্বর) ঢাকার বিমান বাহিনী সদর দপ্তরে এই চুক্তি সই হয়। বিমান বাহিনীর ভেরিফায়েড ফেসবুক পেজে এই তথ্য জানানো হয়েছে। অনুষ্ঠানে উপস্থিত ছিলেন বিমান বাহিনী প্রধান এয়ার চিফ মার্শাল হাসান মাহমুদ খান। বাংলাদেশে নিযুক্ত ইতালির রাষ্ট্রদূত আন্তোনিও আলেসান্দ্রোও সেখানে উপস্থিত ছিলেন। এছাড়া সশস্ত্র বাহিনী বিভাগের প্রিন্সিপাল স্টাফ অফিসারসহ দুই দেশের ঊর্ধ্বতন কর্মকর্তারা এই অনুষ্ঠানে যোগ দেন। বিমান বাহিনী জানিয়েছে, এই চুক্তির আওতায় ভবিষ্যতে ইউরোফাইটার টাইফুন বিমানগুলো দেশে আসবে। এগুলো বিমান বাহিনীর মূল বহরে বা 'ফ্রন্টলাইন ফ্লিট'-এ যুক্ত হবে। এই বিমানগুলো নতুন প্রজন্মের এবং বহু ধরণের কাজ করতে সক্ষম।
