The Bangladesh Armed Forces and the United States military will strengthen their long-standing partnership this year through three joint military exercises and the introduction of a new capability, reinforcing their shared security goals.

The U.S. Embassy in Dhaka announced on Sunday that these initiatives aim to bolster the security and stability of both nations as well as the wider region.

Tiger Lightning Exercise: For the fourth consecutive year, the Bangladesh Army and U.S. Army Pacific will conduct the Tiger Lightning exercise. This realistic training will prepare soldiers for counterterrorism operations, peacekeeping missions, jungle warfare, rapid medical evacuation, and immediate response to improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

Tiger Shark 2025 Exercise: Part of the Flash Bengal series, Tiger Shark is a joint training operation focused on combat tactics for special forces from both countries. Since 2009, the exercise has included patrol boat operations and short-range weapons training. It will further enhance the capabilities of Bangladesh’s Special Warfare Diving and Salvage Unit and Para Commando Brigade. Notably, the exercise will feature U.S. military equipment used by both forces.

Pacific Angel Exercise: Scheduled for the fourth time in Bangladesh, Pacific Angel emphasizes humanitarian assistance and disaster response. The exercise will showcase the vital role of the C-130 aircraft fleet in delivering supplies and conducting air mobility during emergencies. It also focuses on search and rescue (SAR) and aeromedical operations, enhancing Bangladesh’s disaster response capabilities.

RQ-21 Program Launch: In a new development, the United States is collaborating with the Bangladesh Army and Navy to establish an unmanned aerial system (UAS) capability. A regiment comprising members of both services will operate the newly introduced RQ-21 Blackjack system.

These joint initiatives aim to enhance Bangladesh’s maritime surveillance, border security, and peacekeeping operations.
