Bangladesh is in favor of easing the ongoing tension between India and Pakistan over the Kashmir issue through talks. If the two friendly countries want, Bangladesh can play the role of mediator. However, Dhaka is not in favor of doing anything in advance before that.

Responding to questions from journalists at the Foreign Ministry on Sunday (April 27), Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Towhid Hossain said these things.

He said, our position is clear, we want peace in South Asia. We know that there has been conflict and great tension between India and Pakistan for a long time on various issues. But we do not want any major conflict to arise here, so that it does not become a cause of danger for the people of this region. We have good relations with India and Pakistan.

The Foreign Affairs Adviser said, we would like them to resolve their problems through talks. We have already seen that mediation proposals have come from two or three countries. Be it through mediation or bilateral talks, we want tensions to be eased and peace to prevail.

Bangladesh has good relations with both India and Pakistan. Iran and Saudi Arabia have already offered to mediate in the ongoing problems between India and Pakistan. In response to a question whether Bangladesh can also play a role of mediator, Touhid Hossain said, "I don't think we should take any role of mediator at this time. We would like them to resolve the problem themselves. If they want our help, you can mediate, then maybe we will go. But before that, we don't want to do anything preemptively."

When asked whether the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan will have any impact on Bangladesh, the adviser said, "In the modern era, everything affects everyone more or less. So, I'm not saying that nothing will affect us at all. Their conflict has nothing to directly affect us. Because, we have not taken any side in it." In the field of trade and commerce, any conflict or bad relationship has an impact.

‘But if we have any interest in importing from them, we will do it.’, added Touhid Hossain.
