Bangladesh has welcomed the official recognition of Palestine as an independent state by four countries. The foreign affairs adviser said it is a step towards achieving full independence.

For more than 75 years, the people of occupied Palestine have faced persecution. Since Israeli aggression began nearly two years ago on October 7, 2023, more than 65,000 people have been killed. Among them, over half a lakh were children.

The world has been shocked by such killings and violations of human rights. In this situation, ahead of the UN General Assembly session, influential countries—the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and Portugal—recognised Palestine as an independent state.

Bangladesh welcomed the recognition of Palestine by four countries in a single day. Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain said that after Bangladesh’s independence, Dhaka rejected Israel’s offer of recognition and instead expressed support for the Palestinians. For over five decades, Bangladesh has maintained this position.

The adviser said: “Since we have always stood by Palestine and supported the people of Palestine, we welcome the recognition by four countries. We believe this is good news.”
