Bangladesh will buy 10 Airbus planes once economy permits: Hasan

Bangladesh will buy 10 planes of the European company Airbus once the country's economy permits, said Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud.

He made the comment after separate meetings with French Ambassador Marie Masdupuy and German Ambassador Achim Troster at the foreign ministry.

Asked if the decision to buy the planes was final, he said the final decision on the purchase is not taken at the foreign ministry but at the ministry concerned.

Hasan Mahmud also said he discussed buying the Second Bangabandhu Satellite from France. A memorandum of understanding was signed on buying satellite during the visit of French President Macron last year and the final agreement will be signed soon.

The first satellite that Bangladesh bought from France was a communication satellite and the second one is an observatory satellite that will collect data on climate as well as security, said Hasan Mahmud.

The two ambassadors also handed over the congratulatory letters of German Chancellor and French President.

Both these countries are major development and trade partners of Bangladesh and the ambassadors discussed widening the relations in the coming days, Hasan Mahmud said.

পররাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী হাছান মাহমুদ বলেছেন, দেশের অর্থ মন্ত্রণালয়ের অনুমতি পেলে ইউরোপীয় এয়ারবাসের ১০টি বিমান কিনবে বাংলাদেশ।

বৃহস্পতিবার (২৫ জানুয়ারি) তার দপ্তরে ফরাসি রাষ্ট্রদূত মারি মাসদুপুয়েই এবং জার্মান রাষ্ট্রদূত আচিম ট্রস্টারের সঙ্গে পৃথক বৈঠকের পর সাংবাদিকদের তিনি এ কথা জানান।

বিমান কেনার সিদ্ধান্ত চূড়ান্ত কি না জানতে চাইলে মন্ত্রী বলেন, কেনার বিষয়ে চূড়ান্ত সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়ার দায়িত্ব পররাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়ের নয়, সংশ্লিষ্ট মন্ত্রণালয়ের।

হাছান মাহমুদ আরও জানান, ফ্রান্স থেকে দ্বিতীয় বঙ্গবন্ধু স্যাটেলাইট কেনার বিষয়ে তিনি আলোচনা করেছেন। গত বছর ফরাসি প্রেসিডেন্ট মাখোঁর সফরের সময় স্যাটেলাইট কেনার বিষয়ে একটি সমঝোতা স্মারক স্বাক্ষরিত হয়েছিল এবং শীঘ্রই চূড়ান্ত চুক্তি স্বাক্ষরিত হবে।

পররাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী বলেন, বাংলাদেশ ফ্রান্সের কাছ থেকে প্রথম যে স্যাটেলাইটটি কিনেছে সেটি ছিল একটি কমিউনিকেশন স্যাটেলাইট এবং দ্বিতীয়টি হবে একটি অবজারভেটরি স্যাটেলাইট, যা জলবায়ু ও নিরাপত্তা সংক্রান্ত তথ্য সংগ্রহ করবে।

এ সময় তার হাতে দুই রাষ্ট্রদূত জার্মান চ্যান্সেলর ও ফরাসি প্রেসিডেন্টের অভিনন্দন পত্রও হস্তান্তর করেন বলে জানান তিনি।

হাছান মাহমুদ আরও বলেন, এই দুই দেশই বাংলাদেশের প্রধান উন্নয়ন ও বাণিজ্য অংশীদার। রাষ্ট্রদূতরা আগামী দিনে এ সম্পর্ককে আরও প্রসারিত করার বিষয়েও আলোচনা করেন।
