Bangladesh will not interfere in UN probe: Foreign Adviser
Bangladesh will allow the United Nations fact-finding mission to proceed without interference, according to Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain.
He said, "We want a completely impartial investigation and will not interfere. They are free to go anywhere for the investigation. If security or accommodation is needed, we are prepared to provide the necessary logistical support, as we have informed them."
The foreign adviser said this in response to a question about the United Nations fact-finding mission’s investigation during a press briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday (September 17).
When asked if the United Nations fact-finding mission has requested any help from the government, the foreign adviser said, "They haven't asked for any cooperation yet. They believe they can manage everything on their own. If needed, they will let us know."
When asked if there was any official inquiry about former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's status in India, Touhid Hossain said, "We don't have any official information. We only know that the Indian Foreign Minister initially said she had arrived but needed to be allowed to come quickly."
When asked if Sheikh Hasina's status in India has been inquired about, he said, "It hasn't been officially asked yet."
Earlier in the morning, Maldives High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Shiuneen Rasheed, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Bangladesh Mission Chief, Abdusattar Isoev, held separate meetings with the foreign adviser at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
