Bangladesh women clinch series with 5-wicket victory over Ireland
The Bangladesh Women's Cricket Team secured a 5-wicket victory over Ireland in the second ODI of the three-match series, clinching the series 2-0.
Winning the toss and opting to bat first, Ireland set a target of 194 for 6. Captain Amy Hunter top-scored with 68 runs off 88 balls, while Orla Prendergast contributed 37 from 72 balls. Laura Delany added 33 off 50 balls, and Raymond Hoey made a quick 21 off 18 balls, helping to stabilize Ireland’s innings after an early collapse.
The Bangladesh bowlers delivered an impressive performance, restricting Ireland’s run flow by taking wickets at regular intervals. Sultana Khatun led the charge with 2 wickets for 32 runs from 10 overs. Nahida Akhtar also chipped in with 1 wicket for 32 runs, while leg-spinner Sarna was economical, claiming 1 wicket for just 6 runs in 4 overs.
In response, Bangladesh’s top-order batters set the foundation for the chase. Fargana Hoque played a brilliant knock of 50 off 89 balls before getting dismissed, and Sharmin Akhter supported with 43 runs off 63 balls. Captain Nigar Sultana Joty contributed a crucial 40 runs, while Sobhana and Shorna added quick runs, with Shorna’s unbeaten 29 off 29 sealing the win.
For Ireland, Delany took 2 wickets for 43 runs, while Orla Prendergast, Ave, and Kelly each took 1 wicket.
With the victory, Bangladesh sealed the series with an unassailable 2-0 lead, ensuring their dominance in the series.
