Bangladesh womens crush Sri Lanka 5–0
The Bangladesh women’s football team delivered a dominant performance on Saturday (July 19), routing Sri Lanka 5–0 in an international warm-up match held at the Bashundhara Kings Arena practice ground.
Forward Puja Rani starred with a brace, while Kanan Rani Bahadur, Trishna, and Afaida each added a goal to complete the emphatic win.
Although the match began with some early threats from the Sri Lankan side—most notably a powerful strike by Lyanshika Jesotheran in the 7th minute that was saved by goalkeeper Ferdousi Akhter Sonali—Bangladesh soon found their rhythm. The breakthrough came in the 24th minute when Kanan Rani opened the scoring. Pooja Rani doubled the lead just before halftime, giving Bangladesh a 2–0 advantage at the break.
In the second half, Bangladesh continued their relentless pressure. Pooja Rani struck again in the 73rd minute to extend the lead to 3–0. Trishna found the net in the 86th, and Afaida converted a penalty in stoppage time to seal the 5–0 result.
Head coach Maria Manda praised the team’s cohesive play and attacking sharpness. The standout performances from Pooja, Kanan, and Trishna were seen as particularly encouraging signs ahead of future fixtures.
Officials from the Bangladesh Football Federation expressed confidence that this resounding win would raise morale and help fine-tune the squad as they gear up for competitive action.
The victory, driven by an impressive attacking display, marks a significant boost in the team’s preparations for upcoming competitions.
