Bangladesh-China relations based on historical trust, mutual respect: Yao Wen
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen has said that the foundation of the relationship between Bangladesh and China has been built on historical trust, mutual respect, and friendship.
He made the observation as the chief guest at a discussion, titled "Five Decades of Bangladesh-China Relations: Towards a New Height", organised by the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) on Thursday (May 8), says a press release.
Ambassador Yao said, “The bond between Bangladesh and China is not only economic, but has developed on historical, cultural, and political levels.”
He said, “The mutual respect and cordial relationship between Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and China’s great leader Mao Zedong laid the foundation of this bond.”
Expressing hope that the ongoing cooperation between the two countries will further expand in the future and reach new heights, he said, “This relationship can play an important role in peace and development in South Asia.”
Additional Secretary to the Foreign Ministry Aminul Islam presided over the discussion while BIISS Director General Major General Md Rashed Uz Zaman delivered the welcome speech. The keynote speaker was Professor Dr Imtiaz Ahmed from the Department of International Relations at the University of Dhaka.
Representatives from various ministries, universities, the armed forces, diplomatic missions, and research organisations were present at the event.
