Bangladesh-China ties at historic high: Envoy

China's Ambassador to Dhaka, Yao Wen, has said that relations between Bangladesh and China are currently at one of the best points in history.

He made this remark as a special guest at a seminar organised by the 'Bangladesh China Friendship Association' at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the capital on Saturday.

The chief guest at the event was Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir .

During the event, Ambassador Yao Wen outlined a broad framework of new possibilities in Bangladesh-China relations, mentioning full cooperation in implementing the Teesta Master Plan, further opening China's market for Bangladeshi products, the potential for high-speed bullet trains and active mediation in resolving the Rohingya crisis .

Ambassador Yao Wen said Bangladesh-China relations are currently at one of the best points in history. Recent high-level visits have further strengthened the strategic partnership between the two countries. China is committed to providing long-term cooperation to Bangladesh in key areas such as development, trade, connectivity and regional stability .

Assuring full cooperation in the Teesta Master Plan, Yao Wen said China is working sincerely to implement the Teesta River Master Plan. The feasibility study for the project is progressing rapidly, and Beijing is ready to provide necessary technical and financial assistance. Once implemented, the project will bring positive changes to water management, agriculture and the environment in the northern region.

Stating that China's vast market is opening up for jackfruit exports, the ambassador said a significant protocol was signed during the Prime Minister's recent visit to China for the export of fresh jackfruit from Bangladesh. As a result, after mangoes, the country's national fruit jackfruit will now also have access to China's huge consumer market, opening up new opportunities for the agricultural economy .

On the possibility of bullet trains and cooperation in the connectivity sector, Yao Wen said work on the Bangladesh-China-Myanmar (BCM) economic corridor is progressing. Additionally, the possibility of using China's high-speed rail technology in Bangladesh is being considered seriously. In the future, opportunities may arise to introduce high-speed trains on important routes such as Dhaka-Chattogram .

On the Rohingya repatriation issue, the ambassador said a new political reality has emerged in Myanmar. In this situation, China will continue its mediatory role in advancing dialogue between Bangladesh and Myanmar and finding a sustainable solution .
