A Bangladeshi national was killed in Fujairah of United Arab Emirates, after debris from a drone shot down mid-air struck him on Wednesday morning (April 1).

The incident took place at a farm in the Al Rifa area, local authorities and the UAE state news agency WAM confirmed.

Officials said the drone’s destruction caused the fatal accident.

This marks the latest civilian casualty amid ongoing regional hostilities, which have already claimed the lives of at least eight foreign nationals, including citizens of Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Palestine, and India.

In the past month, 188 people have been injured in the UAE due to drone and missile activity, including individuals from Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, the Philippines, Pakistan, Iran, India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.

The UAE’s air defense system has successfully intercepted most drones and missiles, but falling debris continues to pose a risk in populated and agricultural areas.

Local authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious objects immediately.

The Bangladeshi embassy is coordinating the repatriation of the victim’s body.
