A Bangladeshi food delivery worker named Md. Mahfuzul Haque, 43, was shot and killed by miscreants in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was working for the online food delivery platform DoorDash.

The incident occurred around 9:30pm local time on South Ithan Street in the Kingsessing area while he was out delivering food on Tuesday (July 7).

According to the police, responding officers rescued Mahfuzul Haque from the scene with a gunshot wound to his head. He was rushed to the hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Based on preliminary investigations, Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small stated that Mahfuz was shot at close range, with the bullet striking the back of his head. His delivery vehicle was found at the scene with the engine still running, and a food package was found lying near the car.

Investigators suspect that at least three masked individuals were involved in the killing. However, no arrests have been made so far. The police have urged anyone with information regarding the incident to contact their designated hotline.

Originally from Rajshahi, Mahfuzul Haque lived in Philadelphia with his wife and their 14-year-old child. His wife had recently graduated in medical science. According to acquaintances, Mahfuz had hoped that his family's financial hardships would soon ease once his wife began her professional career.

Mahbubul Alam Tayoub, the Mayor of Millbourne Borough, stated that the Bangladeshi expatriate community believes this was a targeted killing.

Family sources indicated that after the funeral prayers, Mahfuzul Haque's body will be taken to Canada, where he will be buried.

Meanwhile, DoorDash expressed deep condolences over the death of Mahfuzul Haque in a statement. Extending sympathies to the bereaved family, the company assured law enforcement agencies of its full cooperation in the investigation.
