Bangladeshi expat killed in garage fire in Madrid
A Bangladeshi food delivery worker was killed after a fire broke out at a bicycle garage in Madrid, according to local media report.
The victim was identified as Md Yousuf Hasan Alif, authorities said.
The fire broke out near Palos de la Frontera Metro station in the Spanish capital on Sunday afternoon (August 30).
According to Spanish authorities, Yousuf became trapped inside the garage as the fire rapidly spread. Firefighters and emergency crews rushed to the scene and launched a rescue operation, but he could not be brought out alive.
Police and fire officials said the cause of the blaze had not yet been established. Preliminary indications suggest it may have started after an electric bicycle battery exploded or due to an electrical short circuit.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire and whether any safety shortcomings contributed to the incident.
According to passport records, Yousuf was born in Dhaka and was unmarried. He had been working as a food delivery rider in Madrid. His body has been kept at a local hospital morgue pending further procedures.
