Bangladeshi killed in BSF firing at Lalmonirhat border
A Bangladeshi youth has been shot dead by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) personnel at Patgram Upazila in Lalmonirhat.
The incident took place around 4:50am at the Dhobolguri border of the upazila on Wednesday (April 8).
The deceased has been identified as Ali Hossain, 32, son of the late Abdul Gafur hailed from Dhobolguri (East Paniartari) village.
According to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and local sources, the incident occurred near Border Pillar 874/5-S, close to the zero line. Hossain was reportedly among a group of seven to eight Bangladeshi citizens attempting to enter Indian territory to cut barbed wire fencing.
The BGB stated that the BSF fired warning shots, leading to a scuffle during which Hossain was shot. He was taken to a hospital in India by BSF personnel, where doctors declared him dead.
Lieutenant Colonel Fazle Munim, commanding officer of 61 BGB, said, “After learning of the incident, we contacted the BSF. A flag meeting at the battalion and sector commander level has been arranged to address the matter.”
